Fall 2017 Law Enforcement Graduates Honored

Eight students graduated from Beaufort County Community College’s fall 2017 basic law enforcement training on April 18. Seth Barrow of Washington, Alfonzo Chavez of Washington, Joshua Britt of Plymouth, Jason Hancock of Chocowinity and Benjamin Hudson of Pinetown, Justin Lilley of Pinetown, Mariah Oro of Bath and Phillip Peaden of Washington were honored at the ceremony.

Ji Paramore of the Washington Police Department was the guest speaker for the graduation. Paramore is a graduate of the BCCC program. Jason Hancock delivered remarks on behalf of his class. Larry Barnes recognized representatives of law enforcement departments who were present, including local police departments and county sheriffs. Many of them are instructors or former graduates of the program.

The BLET program is designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county or municipal governments, or with private enterprise.

The program uses state commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic and alcoholic beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody and court procedures; emergency responses; and ethics and community relations.

Successful graduates receive a curriculum certificate and are qualified to take certification examinations mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and/or the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission.

The graduation ceremony for the spring 2018 basic law enforcement training will be on May 18. The training program at BCCC is currently open for enrollment. For more information, contact Larry Barnes at 252-940-6228 or larry.barnes@beaufortccc.edu.
