With Churchill Hodges’ guidance, students will be picking and strumming in no time. Hodges’ will teach the major and minor chords, and how to move between them. Students can choose their favorite playing style, whether it is using a flat pic or finger picking. Various types of music such as Folk, Southern Rock, Blues, Contemporary Christian, Rock, and Bluegrass will be addressed, and each session will include group and individual instruction. This $55 class takes place on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. starting September 13.

Welding for Fun

This class is a great opportunity for people who have never welded professionally, but want to create metal structures or art around their homes. This class will provide all the materials needed, along with safety equipment. Students will learn the basics of Mig (GMAW), Tig (GTAW), and stick (SMAW) welding. By the end, they will have made their own art project to keep. Accident insurance included in the $140 fee. This class will take place on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. starting on September 15.

Sewing Skills

Irene Jones will share her wealth of sewing knowledge. On the first evening, students will make a pillowcase with provided supplies. Jones will provide a supplies list for the remainder of the class, which will be sewing an apron. These projects will teach students all the basic sewing skills to take on projects of their own. This $45 class will start on September 17.

Enjoying DSLR Photography

Students will spend four spring evenings learning how to better use their DSLR camera. David Clark, a seasoned commercial photographer, will share his expertise and passion for making great photos. Each evening students will make and share photos with class members as they come to understand how the elements of light interact with the camera. Explore metering, exposure and using various lenses to get desired results. Students will use different modes to photograph people, indoor objects and outdoor scenes. They will learn to format in RAW or JPEG as the need arises. The result will be the best vacation pictures ever. This $50 class will take place on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. starting September 18.

Pamlico History

This is a special place, and exploring the history of the area will make students appreciate it even more. Ray Midgett will connect local towns and the Pamlico River to the Outer Banks and beyond. Students will discover how this area developed, and why the river is so crucial to the settlement of the region. The September 26 session is a walking tour of Washington’s waterfront. Midgett’s understanding of recorded history and all the accompanying, charming anecdotes will make this class a pleasure. The $40 class will begin September 18 and runs on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
