Students Receive Darragh Foundation, Continuing Ed Scholarships

The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following recipients of the Darragh Foundation Scholarship. Established in 1998 by Richard and Mildred Darragh, the Darragh family focuses on the impact of education in the communities it serves. The Darragh Foundation’s mission is helping to improve the lives of others. Scholarships from the foundation are awarded to continuing education students seeking their high school equivalency diploma and students working towards an industry-recognized credential returning to the workforce.

Harmony Harris, 38, is the daughter of Marilyn and Ronald Gaylor, wife of Chris Harris and a mother of two. The Swan Quarter resident attended Manteo High School. She is a certified BLS instructor for Vidant. She plans to become a registered nurse within three years after completing the phlebotomy program. Harris currently works at the Vidant Multi-Specialty Clinic in Belhaven.

Towanda Love, 57, is an income maintenance worker student and a resident of Washington. She is a mother of two and holds a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science from Mercy College.

Valinda Miller, 34, is the daughter of Belinda and Harvey Woodley of Columbia. She is the wife of Cortland Miller and a mother of two. Miller is part of the medical office specialist program, and she attended Columbia High School. She plans become a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse. She holds a nurse aide certification and a medical technician certification.

Carrie Moore, 39, is part of the income maintenance worker program. The daughter of Carol Williams of Chocowinity, the mother of two hopes to advance her career. Moore attended Washington High School and holds three associate degrees from BCCC: one in accounting, one in business administration and one in general education. The Williamston resident currently works at Rodgers Elementary School as a secretary/bookkeeper.

William Sheppard, 32, is part of the culinary arts program. Son of William Sheppard of Greenville and a father of one, he hopes to run his own restaurant. Sheppard holds an associate degree in paralegal studies and attended Uniondale High School. He currently works as a baker at K&W Cafeteria.

One student received the BCCC Foundation Board of Directors Scholarship. Established in 2015, this scholarship is awarded to continuing education students seeking an industry-recognized credential. Students must demonstrate financial need and meet qualifying guidelines.

Angela Antrican, 45,is the wife of Sam Antrican and a mother of four. She is part of the culinary arts program. The Washington resident attended Granby High School and currently runs a family business.
