The exhibit Inspiring Beauty at the NC Museum of Art tells the remarkable story of an extraordinary fashion show. The exhibition explores the 50-year history of the Ebony Fashion Fair (1958–2009), an unparalleled charity fashion show that redefined the concepts of beauty, style, and empowerment for African Americans. On Tuesday evening Jeff Phipps, retired Professor of Costuming at ECU, will give us insights into couture fashion and why it is important to clothing decisions we all make. On Thursday we will drive to Raleigh for a docent lead tour of the exhibit. We have lunch reservations at Iris, the museum’s restaurant. Afterward there is time to explore the museum’s reinstalled African exhibits in the East Building. Participants will pay for their own meal. All other expenses are included.
