May Golf Tournament to Raise Funds for Scholarships

This year, the Beaufort County Community College Foundation is exchanging the cool air of October for the warm weather of May as it moves its annual golf tournament from fall to spring. The BCCC Foundation-Nutrien 26thAnnual Invitational Golf Tournament for Scholarships will take place on Friday, May 3 at Cypress Landing Golf Club.

The tournament is one of the largest annual fundraising events for the BCCC Foundation. In past years, it has been paired with a concert and auction, but this year the foundation has spun it off as stand-alone event. The auction and concert will take place on October 24 later this year. The golf tournament will raise funds for scholarships to help eligible students with the cost of tuition and books, as well as emergency grants. Last year, the foundation awarded a total of $150,000 to 140 students.

“This golf tournament has long been a great event for our foundation,” said Serena Sullivan, VP of institutional advancement. “We have many supporters of the college, and the impact it has on our student’s success is tremendous. When our students can stop stressing out financial obstacles, they can start making better grades and graduating sooner.”

The tournament will be a four-person super ball format with teams pre-flighted based on each golfer’s handicap. The entry is fee $85 per player and includes lunch, cart rental and greens fee. Team prizes will be awarded by 18-hole score in each of three flights. Four prize packages for “closest to the pin” shots will also be awarded.

Businesses and individuals can sponsor tournament holes.

“In past years, supporters have brought their competitive edge to this tournament that really benefits the community as a whole,” said Sullivan.

The foundation is now accepting team and hole sponsorships, along with registrations for teams and players. For sponsorships or a tournament registration form, contact Serena Sullivan at 252-940-6326.
