Real estate & job prep classes starting soon



Beaufort County Community College has moved some previously scheduled Continuing Education classes online. These classes can help you get started in real estate, give you important certifications for re-employment or just clean up your driving record. All classes listed will be online. See the full schedule here. Some classes listed in the schedule may have been postponed, canceled or moved online. Defensive Driving-DDC-4

We are now offering an online version of our DDC-4 Defensive Driving Class. It is the same 4-hour class that we normally offer on-site, and it is delivered through the NC Safety and Health Council. The price remains $70. This class has been sanctioned by the District Attorneys in 51 North Carolina counties for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis. It is useful to those who have received speeding tickets and certain other traffic violations. Prospective students may call 252-940-6357 for more information.

National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC) Prep Classes

This is a specialized course lab designed to assist individuals with earning their National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC). Students may enroll or join this class at any time. It is an open enrollment lab. NCRC is a nationally recognized portable credential that measures employability skills in three areas: Reading for Workplace Documents, Applied Math, and Graphic Literacy. Many companies either require or give preference to job applicants that have a NCRC. Fee waivers for the $75 registration fee are available for qualifying individuals. Individuals wishing to pursue their NCCRC will pay a $39 testing fee at the time of testing. Students seeking to earn their NCRC are strongly recommended to participate in the NCRC Prep Class prior to sitting for the NCRC test. Classes take place from 2:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through July 30.

American Sign Language

This new online course is a beginner version of the fundamental elements of American Sign Language within a cultural context. Emphasis is placed on basic vocabulary, grammar, expressive practice to develop everyday conversational skills in ASL. Students of ASL can expect to acquire many insights, not only universal aspects common to all languages, but also specific information that is sound in studying ASL and learning about its community of users. The $75 class will take place from 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 29–June 25.

Pre-License Real Estate

This 10-week course is required to satisfy the educational requirements for a provisional broker and is designed to prepare you to pass the real estate license examination administered by the NC Real Estate Commission. Topics include basic real estate principles and practices, law and contracts, financing, closing valuation, fair housing and real estate laws. Book available in campus bookstore. Students must hold a high school diploma, a Career Readiness Certificate of a silver or higher, and are subject to criminal background check. This $180 class will take place online from June 1through August 5 from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

HRD: Pathway Workplace Ethics

This course will provide more in-depth skills training in case management and human services. The program will highlight workplace ethics used in Counseling and Human Service careers. It provides employability skills training for unemployed and underemployed adults. The curriculum framework is based on four post-employment service strategies– transition, retention, advancement, and re-employment. Transition involves being ready to work (school-to-work, school-to-school, and/or balancing work and family). Retention involves keeping a job and staying employed (work ethics). This class runs from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from July 6 through July 29. The $70 fee can be waived for qualifying individuals.
