BCCC Foundation cancels dinner & concert
The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is canceling its Celebrating Hope Auction and Banquet, originally scheduled for October 9, 2021. The recent surge in positive COVID-19 cases in our region makes holding a large indoor event too risky, especially one that involves dining. The event featuring the Pamlico Sound Machine had been scheduled for October 9 at the Washington Civic Center. The auction component of the event will move to an online format that proved successful during the fall of 2020. The online auction will open later in September and run through the end of November. All proceeds will benefit scholarships and emergency grants for students at BCCC.
BCCC continues to take the pandemic seriously as hospital systems across the South are overwhelmed by new COVID-19 patients due lower rates of vaccination in the region. The vaccination rate for Beaufort County still stands at 51 percent of the eligible population, even as the Pfizer-BionTech vaccine has full FDA approval. BCCC started the fall semester by returning to in-person classes but requiring masks indoors.
