BCCC Youth Arts Camps Take the Stage This Summer

Beaufort County Community College will offer three performing arts camps through its Summer Enrichment Youth Program this summer. These camps are offered in partnership with the Beaufort Performing Arts Collective (BPAC) and the Marketplace at Olive’s. These camps offer a variety of experiences for youth of varying ages who love the spotlight or love being behind the scenes.

To make the programs accessible to more families, BCCC has scholarships available for qualified families. Guardians or parents will need to apply for a scholarship to take advantage of this offer. All About Art Camp (rising 3rd grade to rising 8th grade)

Heather Summers, Savannah Medlin, and Ethan Wolf will teach this very active class, and they will be assisted by Maecy Douglas and Melissa Wise Elliott. Participants will paint, make pottery, create a bottle cap mosaic, learn pantomime, practice stage combat, make crafts, explore books. Participants should bring your lunch. At the end of the class, they will hang the mosaic in a place for all to appreciate. Two sessions are available. One session runs from July 10 through July 13, and another runs from July 17 through July 20. Sessions cost $225 and take place at Marketplace at Olive’s. Scholarships are available to qualifying families.

Performing Arts Camp (rising 5th grade and up)

For two weeks participants will explore performing techniques as they prepare to stage a performance. Young actors will learn audition skills, stage presence, acting techniques, vocal projection, showmanship, stage movement, blocking, directions, script reading and analysis, communication skills, teamwork, and puppetry. Lead by Savannah Medlin and Ethan Wolf, they will be well rehearsed. On Friday evening, August 4, everyone is invited to the final play. This $350 camp runs from July 24 through August 3, with the final performance on Friday evening, August 4. Scholarships are available to qualifying families.

Stagecraft Camp (rising 5th grade and up)

During the second week of Performing Arts Camp, Heather Summers will gather the most important members of any production, the people who make it all happen. Participants will learn planning, set design and building, backstage management, stage set and strike, running crew, team building, lights and sound, and final production. Everyone has a place in the Friday night performance. Our whole company will make this a brilliant production. The $200 camp takes place from July 31 through August 3, with the final performance taking place on Friday evening, August 4. Scholarships are available to qualifying families.
