Natural Hair Specialist
Credential: NC State Board of Cosmetic Arts, Natural Hair Care Specialist License
This course designed to teach how to care for natural hair without the use of chemicals such as perms/relaxers and hair color. The style
techniques include braiding, twisting, wrapping, extending and locking natural hair. The coursework also includes teaching the proper
health, safety, and sanitation procedures to avoid spreading infections. The students will be able to apply their skills to clients who visit the
clinic. After successfully completing the course, the students will be able to sit for the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts exam to
become a licensed Natural Hair Care Specialist.
The course materials include the Milady Standard Natural Hair and Braiding textbook (ISBN: 978-1-133-69368-0), Milady Foundations
textbook (ISBN: 978-1-337-09525-9), and a class kit available in the BCCC bookstore (prices are subject to change). Students will also need to
purchase black closed-toed shoes, black scrubs, and obtain a photo ID from BCCC campus police prior to class.
